Check out some ideas on how you can use the Universal puzzle controller. There are a lot of possibilities and you can build countless different puzzles!
Light sensors are hidden under crystals in the skull's eye sockets. They are connected to our Multi-Color sensor extensions which change color every time the Light sensor is triggered, that is, when the laser is pointed at the right spot. When the colors are set right, a secret message in the bottle is given to players.
CRYSTAL EYESIn Magical Songs puzzle idea, there are 5 different LED Button sensors that has to be pressed in the right sequence. One of the outcomes is turning on LED lights, and another activates the pump.
Magical songsIndiana Jones is scared of snakes – are you? Feel like an adventurer and discover the secret of Serpent's Path to find the legendary treasure of Viper King!
PATH OF THE SERPENTPlace wooden tokens with animals (and RFID stickers underneath) in the correct spots. To do so, you'll need to place your hand under the spots (Hands and body sensor) and listen to the corresponding sounds. Then, match the animals to the sounds and the puzzle is solved.

What is the green screw terminal?
The output cable is permanently attached to every puzzle controller and it has the green screw terminal at the end. If you buy our output set, all you need to do is to connect them together through those terminals.
However, if you are more advanced, we provide a separate green screw terminal so you can make your own output set (e.g. with an electromagnet). To do this, you have to connect your output set's wires into the right color-coded places:
- brown – NC (normally closed),
- green – COM (common),
- white – NO (normally open).

How to set it up
Game Mode 1 – STATE
In the STATE Game Mode, you need to trigger all the sensors at the same time to activate the output set.
Setting up the STATE Game Mode:
- Trigger the sensors which solve the puzzle.
- Hold the teaching button until the status diode blinks 1 time.
- Release the teaching button.
- Every time the selected sensors remain triggered at the same time, the output set will be activated.
Example:
Put 4 RFID tags on the RFID sensors to turn on the UV Lights output set. It will be turned off if at least one sensor is deactivated.

Game Mode 2 – SEQUENCE
In the SEQUENCE Game Mode, you need to trigger sensors in the right order to activate the output set.
Setting up the SEQUENCE Game Mode:
- Press and hold the teaching button until the status diode blinks 2 times.
- Release the teaching button.
- Trigger sensors in the correct order (you can use each sensor more than once).
- Press the teaching button.
- Every time you repeat the sequence, you will activate the output set. The output set will remain activated until you reset the Universal, or until the sequence is broken.
Example:
Press 6 buttons in the correct order to release the electromagnet.
Pro Tip: With sequences where the same sensors have to be triggered multiple times, it's better to NOT program the first step in the sequence. That way, if players make a mistake and start from the beginning, triggering the first step will reset the previous attempt and then the rest will solve the puzzle.

Game Mode 3 – IMPULSE
In the IMPULSE Game Mode, triggering any of the right sensors will activate the output set for a second. The output set can be activated only once per sensor until you reset the Universal.
Setting up the IMPULSE Game Mode:
- Press and hold the teaching button until the status diode blinks 3 times.
- Release the teaching button.
- Trigger the right sensors.
- Press the teaching button.
- Triggering any of the right sensors activates the output set for a second.
Example:
Triggering sensors adds 4 minutes to an external timer. Every sensor adds time only once.
Game Mode 4 – ELIMINATION
In ELIMINATION Game Mode you need to trigger the sensors to activate the output set. The order is not important.
Setting ELIMINATION Game Mode:
- Press and hold the teaching button until status diode blinks 4 times.
- Release the teaching button.
- Trigger specific sensors.
- Press the teaching button.
- Triggering selected sensors activates the output set.
Example:
Press 4 buttons in any order to turn on lights. The lights will stay turned on until you reset the Universal with an additional button/sensor.
This can be used when players have to touch something once, but not keep the button pressed all the time.
Game Mode 5 – MASTERMIND
In the MASTERMIND Game Mode, you need to find the right sequence basing on sounds that are played after triggering the desired amount of sensors.
Setting up the MASTERMIND Game Mode:
- Press and hold the teaching button until the status diode blinks 5 times.
- Release the teaching button.
- Trigger sensors in the right order (you can use each sensor more than once).
- Press the teaching button.
- Every time you repeat sequence you will activate the output set.
Example:
Press 4 buttons in any order. After that, the Universal will only play the sounds assigned to the buttons that were properly pressed. Guessing the correct sequence will release the Electromagnet output set.
You need the Universal with sound to use the MASTERMIND Game Mode properly.
SETTING MP3 FILES ON USB FLASH DRIVE
The Universal puzzle controller with sound is an upgraded version of the basic Universal, which allows you to play MP3 files. Every plugged sensor can play different sound and after solving a puzzle, the device can play the winning sound.
Replace MP3 files on the USB flash drive with your own correctly named MP3 files (see picture below). Files 0001.mp3-0012.mp3 are responsible for sensors and files 9997.mp3-9999.mp3 are responsible for the winning sounds:
- 9997.mp3 – before activating the output set,
- 9998.mp3 – when the output set is activated (the duration of the activation is set by the duration of this MP3 file),
- 9999.mp3 – after activating the output set.
You can use free software like Audacity to cut or extend your MP3 files. You don't have to use all the MP3 files – just delete the ones you don't need.
